Marantaceae

Maranta Mania

The Marantaceae family, also commonly known as prayer plants, consist of 31 genera (think of this as a sub-group) and around 530 species within. This includes Calathea, Maranta, Stromanthe, along with several others. This family of plants love humidity! In the wild, they typically live on the forest floors of Central and South America. I tend to not let these guys be in temperatures under about 50-55 degrees. All of mine live indoors, and all do well with “normal” indoor household conditions. Especially in Florida.
